American Odds

Unsurprisingly, American odds are popular in American esportsbooks and their format takes some getting used to if you’re familiar with the rest of the world’s use of decimal odds. Let’s look at a CS:GO example; in a match between Virtus Pro (-172) and Evil Geniuses (+131). With American odds (in sports betting and esports betting), the negative number represents the favorite. This number shows how much you would need to bet in order to win $100. For the underdog (Evil Geniuses), the reverse is true, and $131 is the amount you would win if you bet $100.

Decimal and Fractional Odds

American Odds can take a little time to get used to, but there are other ways of reading odds, and decimal and fractional are often easier to interpret. For the same example above, the decimal odds for this esports match would be translated to Virtus Pro (1.581) and Evil Geniuses (2.313). If you were to bet $10 on Virtus Pro, you would earn 1.581 times your bet ($10) for a total of $15.81. This amount includes your bet, so in this case your profit would be $5.81.

Fractional odds are most prevalent at UK esports bookmakers, and are slightly more complex to understand. For the same example, consider Virtus Pro a favorite with fraction odds of 3/5 (pronounced “three to five”), this would mean that for every $5 bet, you would receive $3 back plus your bet. A winning bet of $20 would therefore bring in a total of $32.

Esports odds can be difficult to understand at first, but it doesn’t matter which format you choose to use, they all equal one another. For simplicity, you can use the options on this website to update how you would like the odds to appear, and you can change this format at any time.
